The Marquis of Ormonde on Codnor Denby Lane is a quality pub and restaurant that serves excellent homemade food, cooked to order and is one of Codnor, Heanor and Ripley’s most popular pub/restaurants. A real pub and restaurant with great regulars, mixed custom and a great team of staff.

We’re now looking for an assistant cook to join our team.

Working from our seasonal created menus you will be responsible for preparing and serving appetising and freshly produced food, whilst maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and health and safety.

Reporting to the managers the successful candidate will be an inspirational, organised and helpful person in a busy kitchen environment.

Due to the nature of our business which operates both daytime and evenings, the successful applicant will be required to work a variety of shifts, to include (but not all and on rotation) weekends, Bank Holidays and the Festive period.

Applicants will have a passion for good food and presentation, be able to maintain high standards at all times (including cleanliness – where required – carry out specific cleaning duties on a daily, weekly and monthly basis within the kitchen / food preparation area) and have a good knowledge of health and safety and allergen laws.

To apply for the role you will have a minimum qualification NVQ Level 2 or 706/2 in Catering, basic or Intermediate Food Hygiene certificate. All applicants are expected to have good customer service skills with a desire to deliver first class service to our customers.

Due to our opening hours – ideally – you would have your own transport.

We are looking for candidates who have:

  • Proven experience in the kitchen producing quality food.
  • Ability to learn current recipes to very high standards.
  • Input on seasonal menu updates.
  • Work as part of the team.
  • Excellent level and understanding of health & safety regulations.
  • The ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • The ability to work under pressure in a fast paced and busy environment.
  • Have excellent self-presentation.
  • Creativity and flair in the kitchen.
  • Flexibility in terms of the working hours required.
  • Be able to communicate well and have a good command of the English language.
